A Riverhead woman has been arrested in connection with the hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian on Route 58 Dec. 30.
Police charged Corrilyn Rose Meyer, 28, with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident that caused a death. Meyer was released on a desk appearance ticket in accordance with New York State bail laws, police said.
Meyer was the operator of a 2019 white Subaru Forrester that left the scene of the crash that killed Dean Arnum, 23, of Middle Island, who was struck while crossing Route 58 in front of Apple Honda at about 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, according to police.
The Subaru was the second vehicle to strike Arnum, police said. The driver of the first first vehicle, a 2013 Ford F 150 pickup truck, Jimmy Butts, 71, of Calverton stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
After an extensive investigation by the Riverhead Detective Squad, aided with information garnered the night of the accident by the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team, Riverhead police detectives were able to identify the Subaru that left the scene, according to a police press release issued tonight.
The Riverhead Town Police Detective Squad subsequently arrested the owner/operator of the vehicle, police said.
This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information in this case is asked to call Riverhead Town Police at 631-727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
