A Riverhead family has brought a new and unique type of business to Main Street.

The Long Island Selfie Studio provides lively, thematic sets for customers to take their own photos in, as well as professional photography services.

“This is the reason why I wanted to bring this to Riverhead, because there’s nothing [like this] out here on the East End,” said Dioniser Rodriguez, an owner of the studio and a social media influencer. “I love doing pictures myself.”

Rodriguez was inspired to start the Long Island Selfie Studio after a vacation to Florida, when she and her husband visited the Miami Selfie Museum.

Long Island Selfie Studio, which celebrated its grand opening last month, plans to offer seasonal, thematic sets for holidays and events. “We’re going to be doing family pictures for Christmas, Easter, other holidays… I’m bringing the Barbie theme this week,” Rodriguez said. The Barbie movie just had its opening weekend.

The studio includes between 24 and 26 different sets where customers take pictures. The sets have a variety of themes, ranging from a bright yellow emoji-themed set, to a cherry blossom pastel pink set, to a tube-TV-and-Tweety-Bird-themed ‘90s set. These sets will be changed every “three to four months,” according to Rodriguez.

“We’re one of the most instagrammable places on the East End, where you can immerse yourself in our fun, colorful, eye-catching art installations,” LI Selfie Studio boasts on its website.

Each set includes a tripod with an adjustable phone mount and a ring light. (Bring your own camera.)

Besides letting customers rent studio space by the hour, the Long Island Selfie Studio rents the entire space for business events and parties.

“[On the 20th] we were with Riverhead Chamber of Commerce… they did a networking event,” Rodriguez said. The studio also invited students from Riverhead High School’s prom to use the space free of charge; Rodriguez said “a lot of them came in to take pictures.”

“A very warm welcome to our newest Chamber members,” Riverhead Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Liz O’Shaughnessy said. “The doors are barely open and already they are giving back and supporting the Riverhead community!”

The Long Island Selfie Studio is one of several new businesses in the Riverview Lofts building, the mixed-use building on the corner of McDermott Avenue and East Main Street, along with Mexicandy, Peconic County Brewing and Taquería Casa Dorado.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome this family-owned and operated business to our downtown,” Riverhead Chamber of Commerce President Connie Lassandro said. “LI Selfie Studio is so unique and vibrant and we are very grateful to the Rodriguez family for bringing their vision, hard work and investment to Riverhead,” she said.

The studio is open seven days a week. Booking information can be found on the Long Island Selfie Studio’s website. Check out Long Island Selfie Studio on Instagram for photos.
