A Riverhead man has been arrested on grand larceny and identity theft charges in connection with the theft of merchandise and several credit cards from a vehicle parked outside a Route 58 nail salon yesterday, according to a police press release.
Michael Meade, 38, was charged with Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, a class E felony, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree, a class E felony, and three counts of identity theft in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor, Riverhead Police said.
Riverhead Police received a call at about noon yesterday reporting that an unknown person removed merchandise, including several credit cards, from a vehicle parked behind Vivi Nails & Spa, located at 1769 Old Country Road, according to the release. Responding officers determined that the stolen credit cards had been used at several local businesses.
An investigation determined that Meade was the individual responsible for the theft, police said. Officers canvassing the area located Meade a short time later and placed him under arrest, according to the report.
Meade was processed and released on an appearance ticket, police said.
It was the second time this month Meade was charged by Riverhead Police for alleged thefts from parked vehicles. Meade was also arrested by Riverhead Police on Aug. 1 on stolen property and drug possession charges in connection with the theft of merchandise from a vehicle parked on East Main Street, according to a previous police press release. Police said Meade broke a window to gain access to that vehicle.
Meade was also charged by Southampton Town Police July 27 in connection with larcenies from vehicles in the Riverside area. He is facing petit larceny and grand larceny charges in connection with those incidents, according to Southampton Town Police, who described Meade as “undomiciled in the Riverhead area.”
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
