A Calverton man pleaded guilty today to charges of assault and burglary for attacking and slashing his ex-girlfriend’s family with a razor blade after forcing his way into their home last year, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.
The district attorney said Guillermo Ayala Jr., 30, was returning from a night out with the mother of his children on Dec. 2 when Ayala demanded he see her cell phone so that “he could see who she had been speaking to.” When his ex-girlfriend didn’t comply, he pulled over into a desolate area in Riverhead where he began suffocating her and threatened to kill her with his razor blade if she didn’t give him her phone, according to court documents and Ayala’s admissions for his plea. The victim was able to convince Ayala to bring her home that night, according to the district attorney.
The next day, the victim met with family members at her parent’s house to discuss her fears for herself and her children. Ayala began knocking on the front door and, after being denied entry, pushed his way past a family member to get inside, according to the district attorney. Family members attempted to stop Ayala, including the victim’s father, whose face was slashed by Ayala’s razor blade, the district attorney said.
The victim’s uncle attempted to get Ayala off of the victim’s father and was slashed with the razor, causing a deep laceration across his head that resulted in a permanent disfigurement. Ayala also bit both the father and the uncle, and cut the victim’s aunt’s arm with a razor blade, before he was pinned to the ground by the victim’s family and placed under arrest by the Suffolk County Police Department, the district attorney said.
Ayala pleaded guilty to one count of first degree burglary and one count of first degree assault, both class B violent felonies, as well as one count of criminal obstruction of breathing, a Class A misdemeanor. Ayala is due back in court on Sept. 20 for sentencing.
