Riverhead Middle School is getting a new principal.
Kellyann Parlato, an assistant principal at Riverhead High School, will start as the middle school principal on Oct. 1, according to the appointment approved by the Riverhead Board of Education last night. Parlato was appointed for a three-year term and will be paid $174,018 per year.
She replaces Joseph Pesqueira, who has been the middle school’s principal since 2022 and was recently hired as the principal of the William T. Rogers Middle School in Kings Park.
School board president James Scudder said the district is immediately beginning the search for a new assistant principal to replace Parlato at the high school.
Also during the Sept. 10 meeting, the school board:
- Adopted its goals for the school year. View the goals here.
- Approved a consultant agreement with ICON Systems for the support and training of the district’s new Chief Information Officer Emmanuel Hernandez. Icon Systems will make Chrisopher Amato, the district’s former data processing systems coordinator, available during a “transition” period as Hernandez gets accustomed to the CIO position, Scudder said. The consultant will receive an hourly rate of $125 per hour, not to exceed $35,000. The agreement expired at the end of 2024.
- Approved the district-wide safety plan for the 2024-25 school year.
- Approved an agreement with the Just Kids Early Childhood Learning Center to provide instructional services to special education students in the district.
- Approved an agreement with the Butterfly Effect Project to continue meetings at the district’s four elementary schools and Pulaski Intermediate School. There will be 35 participants per school chapter.
