Apple Honda in Riverhead presented the North Fork Breast Health Coalition with a $7,500 donation this week, representing proceeds from the Route 58 auto dealership’s 12th annual October fundraising campaign, in observance of breast cancer awareness month.

Each year, Apple Honda donates $50 for every new car sold and $1 for each repair made during the month of October to the Riverhead-based nonprofit.

The dealership first launched its annual October fundraising effort in 2013 and since then, has donated more than $94,000 to the group, which assists breast cancer patients across the North Fork with free services and one-time “Helping Hands” grants of $1,000. The all-volunteer organization also supports research into early detection and treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

The Stage IV Fund was established in 2021 to provides financial support to oncologists who are treating local patients and are actively doing cutting-edge research on extending and saving lives of Stage IV breast cancer patients. The fund also supports Stage IV thrivers who often have unexpected costs and expenses associated with their treatment.

Apple Honda General Manager Bill Fields says the whole staff at the dealership embraces the fundraising campaign because the North Fork Breast Health Coalition provides an “invaluable service to people coping with breast cancer.”

The North Fork Breast Health Coalition was founded in 1998 by local residents Ann Cotten DeGrasse and Antonio DeGrasse because they saw a great need for such an organization on the North Fork, where there is an especially high rate of cancer diagnoses.
