Matthew J. Goebel of Riverhead died on Dec. 12, 2024, at home. He was 40 years old.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1984, in Southampton to Lawrence and Catherine Goebel. He attended MacArthur High School. Matthew was an avid fisherman and enjoyed football and baseball, and was a devoted Steelers fan. He also loved spending time on his boat.
Matthew was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Goebel. He is survived by his significant other, Deena Browe; his children, Matthew Jr., Mackenzie, and Aiden; his mother, Catherine Goebel; and his siblings, Matt Bonner, Christine Goebel, Carrie Garcia, Carin Goebel, and Laurence Goebel.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
