To the Editor:
Tim Hubbard’s guest column trying to justify his refusal to participate in candidate forums because they are supposedly “inherently biased” is the height of hypocrisy. Hubbard and his ethically challenged GOP Town Board have no trouble voting on matters proposed by Republican Party officials let alone campaign donors despite an appearance of impropriety if not illicit quid pro quos.
But more duplicitous is Hubbard’s newfound appreciation of “open debate and political discourse.” Last year, I was forcibly ejected from Town Hall by Hubbard and four armed cops when I criticized Hubbard’s wasteful spending. Hubbard threw me out when I brought up the rogue IDA and its giveaways to the GOP friends and family network.
On Monday, alleged Ponzi scheme developer and one of Hubbard’s biggest campaign donors, Greg DeRosa, CEO of G2D — whose Riverhead IDA-benefitted project on Osborn Avenue was stalled and then taken over by creditors following numerous lawsuits filed against him and his company — has another criminal court appearance in his prosecution by the Suffolk County District Attorney on check fraud charges. RiverheadLOCAL previously reported that DeRosa and another company executive made campaign contributions to Hubbard in 2023 that exceeded of N.Y. State Election Law limits. Perhaps Hubbard recognizes there is no explanation in any forum for his solicitation and acceptance of money from these questionable developers other than our town is for sale.
