John D. Peck Jr. of Jamesport died on Jan. 5, 2026. He was 87 years old.
He was born on July 11, 1938, and raised in Queens Village by his parents, John Sr. and Constance, alongside his siblings Gail, Carol, and Robert. He attended PS 33 and Jamaica High School. John met his future wife, Linda Theresa Rene Blume, while carpooling to work at Sperry. They married on April 7, 1962.
John served four years in the National Guard at Fort Dix. He was a dedicated employee of Grumman Corporation for 38 years. John and Linda raised their three children in Selden and later moved to Jamesport. He volunteered at Christ Church United Methodist in Port Jeff Station and coached youth soccer and baseball at St. Gerard Majella’s church.
His family said he was an avid model train enthusiast, a member of the Railroad Museum of Long Island, and enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, water-skiing, and tinkering with his 1956 Chevrolet. They described him as a master storyteller with a knack for remembering details, and someone who could talk to anyone.
Predeceased by his wife Linda, and his brother Robert, he is survived by his sisters, Gail Stroup and Carol McGough, his daughters Kristin and Tracy (David Corbett), his son John (Kathleen); and five grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, from 3 to 8 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Railroad Museum of Long Island or toward improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease.
