Shake Shack plans June 30 opening at Tanger Outlets Riverhead

Shake Shack will open its first East End location at Tanger Outlets Riverhead next month, adding another nationally recognized dining brand to the outlet center’s expanding mix of food and entertainment offerings.

The New York-based burger chain is scheduled to open June 30 in a 3,100-square-foot space in Tanger 2, according to an announcement from Tanger Riverhead. The restaurant will open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Riverhead location will be the company’s first on the East End.

Known for its made-to-order Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries and milkshakes, Shake Shack has grown from a single kiosk in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park into an international brand with more than 685 locations worldwide.

Tanger Riverhead officials said the addition reflects the outlet center’s continued focus on expanding its dining and lifestyle offerings alongside traditional retail tenants.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shake Shack to Tanger Riverhead and introduce this iconic brand to the East End for the very first time,” Tanger Riverhead Marketing Director Lesley Anthony said in a statement. “As we continue to enhance the center’s shopping and dining experience, Shake Shack brings an exciting, high-quality addition that we know our guests and community will love.”

The opening comes as Tanger Riverhead continues to diversify beyond outlet shopping, adding more food, entertainment and experiential businesses aimed at attracting year-round visitors.

To mark the opening day, the company said the “first wave” of customers will receive complimentary Shake Shack tote bags. Shake Shack also plans to donate $1 from every sandwich sold on opening day to a local food pantry charity.

Founded in 2004, Shake Shack now operates more than 440 locations across the United States, along with more than 245 international locations.
