The Leprechaun Leap, a fundraiser for the Jamesport St. Patrick's Day Parade, , took place at Miamogue Point Saturday, RiverheadLOCAL/ Emil Breitenbach Jr.

For most people, Saturday was not exactly a beach day, with temperatures barely climbing to 50º at noontime and strong, gusty winds making the air feel much colder. Water temperatures of the Peconic Bay hovered at just below 39º.

But those conditions didn’t deter dozens of hardy souls from stripping down to their swimsuits and charging into the icy water of the bay at noon yesterday for the Leprechaun Leap, a fundraiser to support the Jamesport St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The fun began and ended at the Watershed Kitchen and Inn on Front Street steps away from Miamogue Point in South Jamesport, where the leap took place.

Leprechauns who took the leap warmed up with a beer-and-wine open bar and a buffet including chili, sheppard’s pie and corn bread at the Watershed, which sponsored the fundraising event.
