Citizens Campaign for the Environment will host a free virtual Lunch & Learn webinar on plastic pollution Thursday, March 26, at noon.
The program will focus on pollution affecting Long Island’s beaches, bays, harbors and estuaries, including plastic waste, fishing gear, scrap metal, rubber and glass. Organizers say those materials accumulate in the marine environment, threaten wildlife and degrade coastal ecosystems.
Speakers will discuss cleanup efforts on Long Island, the types of debris most commonly collected, likely sources of litter pollution and ways residents can help address the problem.
Scheduled speakers are Adrienne Esposito, executive director of Citizens Campaign for the Environment; Rob Weltner, president of Operation SPLASH; and Rob DiGiovanni, chief scientist and founder of the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society.
The webinar will be held via Zoom. Register online.
