Downtown Riverhead is one of two federally designated opportunity zones in the Town of Riverhead. The other is in Calverton, including the Calverton Enterprise Park. The zones allow investors to defer or altogether avoid capital gains taxes, providing an incentive to invest in designated areas.

Wading River Fire Department vols are conducting their annual Stuff-A-Bus food drive between Thanksgiving and New Year’s to help restock empty shelves at local food pantries for the winter. They will make the rounds with Santa Claus Dec. 8 to visit children and collect nonperishable food items to help stuff the school bus that’s parked outside headquarters, where they will also accept donations.
