Animal cruelty

One week to the day following his arrest for fatally shooting a German Shepherd puppy, Carlo Lauro of Riverhead pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year in jail. He is also banned from possessing any animals for 20 years.

Carlo Lauro, 76, of Riverhead is charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, a class E felony, after fatally shooting two German Shepherds at his Sound Avenue home. Investigators found numerous dead animals, sick and injured animals on his property.
