Parents are leading an effort to keep open McGann-Mercy in Riverhead — the only Catholic high school east of L.I. Expressway exit 53 — even if it means running it themselves.

The game was tied at 5 in the sixth inning but Hauppauge broke it open with seven runs in the top of the seventh. Mercy answered with three in the bottom of the inning, but Hauppauge held on for a 12-8 win.
