The Monarchs took the field for their first home game this season, with Sarah Penny on the mound and a new young squad behind her.
It was a very even game for the first few innings, with both squads taking turns grabbing the lead, but in the sixth inning, with the game tied at 5, Hauppauge broke it open for seven runs, taking a 12-5 lead.
Mercy battled back, scoring three in the top of the seventh but left runners stranded. Hauppauge held on for the 12-8 victory.
Mercy’s next home game is Tuesday, March 27 against East Islip; game time is 4:30 p.m.
