Holiday giving

‘Tis the season for giving — and locals across Riverhead have been doing their part in the spirit of the holiday season. 

Christmas will be brighter for kids at Roanoke  Avenue Elementary School, thanks to the efforts of local residents, spearheaded by Riverhead Highway Superintendent Mike Zaleski. 

Around 100 families received food, which included either a turkey, ham or chicken with potatoes and vegetables, as well as a box mix to make a dessert. The food was distributed by volunteer National Grid employees.

Riverhead Police Officers and their children distributed turkey dinners and Christmas presents to needy families throughout the town on Tuesday.

With the help of Riverhead High School NJROTC cadets, Riverhead Rotary distributed a couple hundred turkey dinners with all the trimmings Friday afternoon.
