Long-time Riverhead Board of Education member and former president Brian Connelly resigned last week in the middle of his term. Connelly had been absent from most school board meetings this school year.

Riverhead school district voters approved a $211.4 million operating budget for the coming school year Tuesday by a vote of 1,004 to 793.

We commend the positions of the Riverhead school district and Riverhead Police Department, articulating that they will not assist federal agencies in immigration enforcement actions.

The Riverhead School District will strictly adhere to N.Y. State guidance that “immigration enforcement actions cannot occur on school grounds without proper legal documentation."

The Riverhead Board of Education has extended by one month the deadline for applications for the superintendent of schools. The district has had an interim superintendent at the helm since October 2023.

The union representing the district's non-instructional staff said members' low pay means high turnover rates and urged the district to settle the contract, which has been in negotiation for about a year.
