School district to hire former budget director at upstate school district cited for fiscal mismanagement during his tenure
Riverhead Superintendent Augustine Tornatore said the new assistant superintendent, whom Tornatore hired last year while at Liberty K-12 School District in Newburgh, “was not the top financial person“ in the Rochester City School District when it overspent its revenues by $42 million in 2018-19, leading to a state comptroller’s audit and the appointment of a state monitor. Rodney Asse did “a fantastic job” at Liberty as its business official, Tornatore said, and has “a good reputation.”

School board approves $169.7 million budget for upcoming school year; May 10 hearing set
The Riverhead Board of Education Tuesday night adopted a $169.7 million proposed operating budget for the 2022-2023 school year. The budget is a 6.5% spending increase over the current year's adopted budget, and requires a 1% real property tax levy increase, bringing the total tax levy to $105.6 million next year.
