Riverhead Raceway is planning a grand opening celebration Saturday, May 7 with a fireworks show and feature racing, unveiling months of extensive renovations to the public for the first time.

Riverhead Town has issued a stop-work order for Riverhead Raceway stating the raceway needs proper permits before continuing with plans to “improve aesthetics” on the property.

One driver spun out and the second driver crashed into the first one head-on at a high rate of speed, according to officials. The accident sent both women to Stony Brook University Hospital, one by police helicopter.
