A man armed with a handgun held up the Walgreens Pharmacy on Route 58 in Riverhead yesterday.

Police are searching for a man described as white, 40 to 45 years old, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall with an average build.

The man entered the pharmacy at about 7 p.m., approached the register area and demanded money from an employee while displaying a handgun.

The suspect fled the location on foot with an undetermined amount of assorted U.S. currency.

A search of the area was conducted by multiple police agencies along with the assistance of a Suffolk County Sheriff’s K9 unit, however the search yielded negative results, police said.

This is the second armed robbery incident at a Route 58 retail store this week. A man armed with a handgun attempted to rob the Mobil Station at the intersection of Route 58 and Mill Road late Tuesday night, but fled without proceeds after a confrontation with an employee there. Police provided no description of that suspect other than to say he was a white male.

Anyone having any information regarding the suspect or who may have witnessed anything in the area around that time frame is asked to contact the Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500 Ext 332.
