Riverhead Police today arrested a 26-year-old woman in connection with the theft of a pocketbook in the Costco parking lot on Jan. 9.

Police have charged Allyson A. Cunningham, no address provided with grand larceny in the fourth degree, according to a press release issued this afternoon.

According to police, Cunningham stole a woman’s purse from her parked vehicle as the victim returned a shopping cart to a cart stall. Cunningham fled the scene in a green Honda sedan occupied by two other people, whose identities remain unknown, police said.

Riverhead Police detectives investigated the incident and found that the victim’s credit card had been used at several locations throughout Suffolk County, according to the police report.

Detectives identified and located Cunningham, who was arrested on the grand larceny charge today, police said. She was brought to Riverhead Police headquarters where she was processed and held for arraignment.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
