The Ever-Ready Engine Company #3 held its annual installation of officers and inspection on Friday, January 27 at Kenny’s on the Green. Second Assistant Chief Pete Kurszyna gave the oath of office to Treasurer Thomas Pipczynski, Secretary Donald Owen, Second Lt. Thomas Andrzejewski, and First Lt. Justin Berry. Chief Joe Hartmann gave the oath of office to Captain Andrew Smith. Chief Joe Hartmann swore in all the officers for the year 2023. The prestigious A. Lloyd Case Award was presented to James Niewadomski by Captain Andrew Smith and Georgette Case. A bouquet of flowers was presented to Georgette Case and Ex Captain Joe Berezny received recognition for his 45 years of service to his company. Special mentions were given to company members Lieutenant Justin Berry and Firefighter Frank Greenwood for their valiant save of life at two separate structure fires. Afterwards everyone sat down and enjoyed the food and shared good times together.
Enjoy Sunday afternoon at the Riverhead Free Library with a Selma Movie and Discussion on Sunday February 5 from 1 pm to 3:30 pm commemorating Black History Month. Enjoy the movie, have a discussion with Professor James “Dr. Love” Banks which is brought to you by the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force.
On Sunday, February 12 “The No Doubt World Famous Monday Night Band” will host a free concert at the Riverhead High School from 1 pm to 3 pm. Enjoy an afternoon of music featuring all local amateur musicians. Selections will include Spanish, Arabian and Armenian Folk dance pieces along with other music. Its free and you will be still able to enjoy and watch the Super Bowl.
On Sunday, February 19, enjoy the Stony Brook High C’s Concert, an all-male a cappella group as they perform contemporary favorites, from 2 pm to 3 pm at the Riverhead Free Library.
The Heart of Riverhead Civic Association will hold its meeting on Wednesday, February 15 at the Riverhead Free Library at 6 pm with Legislator Al Krupski as guest speaker. The group is looking to expand the board adding a secretary and membership director. A Musical Morning Special Event will take place at the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum, 300 West Main Street in Riverhead, on Friday, February 17 at 10 am (doors open 9:30 am). JK Hodge, a contemporary classical composer, along with the Hauppauge High School Chamber Orchestra will perform a free concert on their local tour. New York State Education Department recognizes February as Career and Technical Education Month. CTE allows the students to gain hands on skills that will prepare them for the workforce or further education in fields such as agriculture, healthcare, technology and trades. BOCES does a great job in our district preparing students for the work world when they graduate.
Band applications are now available for the Southampton Youth Bureau’s 20th Anniversary Battle of the Bands. This year’s competition will be held on Friday, June 9 (rain date Friday, June 16) from 8 pm to 11 pm at Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays. All applications and demo music must be received by 4 pm on Friday, May 12 and can be dropped off to Battle of the Bands-Youth Bureau, Southampton Youth Bureau, 655 Flanders Road, Flanders, NY 11901. Qualifying bands must have one high school students who resides in the Town of Southampton and a band must consist of three performing musicians. Can spiderwebs support the weight of a person? Have fun and join in as you learn through experiments and projects.
