Riverhead Police report two DWI arrests after a STOP-DWI New Year’s Eve enforcement. Extra officers were assigned to the enforcement patrols, which police said began at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and ended at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said Alejandro Tomas Andres, 51, of Riverhead and Dystinee A. Henderson, 24, of Riverhead, were charged with DWI during the enforcement effort. Both were processed at police headquarters and held for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court.

“The Riverhead Police Department will continue their high visibility Stop DWI enforcement throughout the New Year and will specifically increase their enforcement during busy travel times, such as the Holiday season, to coincide with the Department’s effort to protect lives and prevent the consequences of impaired driving,” the police department said in a statement.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
