Riverhead High School junior Jarell Gilliam was recently named to the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME) All-County mixed choir. A tenor with an impressive vocal range, Jarell will join other outstanding Suffolk County student-vocalists for the NYSCAME concert in November.

“Jarell works incredibly hard and is always looking for ways to grow as a musician,” said Riverhead High School music teacher Leandra Wahlen.

“He has a positive spirit and confidence that inspires his peers and me,” she said.

Jarell is secretary of the Riverhead High School chamber choir, a performer in the Blue Masques theater program, and a devoted member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He was selected to take part in the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association East Division Three All-County Festival this past spring and has participated in New York State School Music Association festivals for several years.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to teach Jarell, and I cannot wait to see how proudly he represents Riverhead at the NYSCAME concert and beyond,” said Ms. Wahlen.

Jarell will perform in the NYSCAME Suffolk All-County Festival Nov. 14 at Hauppauge High School. He will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the top high school vocalists in the county.
