Riverhead’s indoor farmers market, and more, coming to former Homeside Florist site

Riverhead’s indoor farmers market, which has moved around among a few different vacant East Main Street stores since its inception in 2014, may be moving for the last time. East End Food Institute, which took over running the famers market in 2019, has signed a three-year lease on the former Homeside Florist and Greenhouses site on Main Road in Riverhead. The farmers market will open there Nov. 27 and the nonprofit organization has big plans for the site in the future.

Gary Hygom, former executive director at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts and 20-year producing director at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, will take the reins at the historic Riverhead theater on Oct. 15.

COVID test positivity rate in Suffolk’s school-age children was 67% higher than overall county rate during first month of school

Since the beginning of the school year, 2,818 Suffolk children ages 5-17 have tested positive for COVID-19 — a 7.2% test positivity rate for 39,170 tests since Sept. 1 — more than 67% higher than the average test positivity rate in Suffolk overall since Sept. 1, which was 4.3%.

Supervisor’s budget proposal would lower town tax rate, while increasing spending
