Air quality health advisory

Representatives of environmental groups, community groups and local government officials across eastern Suffolk County turned out for a two-hour, wide-ranging conversation with state legislators Thursday morning in Riverhead. 

Temperatures in the 90s, high humidity will produce heat index values of 101° or more on Long Island, putting residents at risk of heat-related illnesses. A high heat advisory is now in effect through Saturday evening.

The brutal heat that has gripped other parts of the nation has arrived locally. Heat index values may reach as high as 100 Thursday and Friday. Heat and air quality health advisories have been issued.
