Downtown Riverhead's first “Dine on 25” event takes place Thursday evening. Main Street will be closed to traffic from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Alive on 25 organizers will post security staff outside the Methodist church during the festival to prevent festival-goers from trespassing on church property and entering the historic cemetery located there.

Riverhead United Methodist Church trustees complain of visitors to the Alive on 25 event trespassing on church property, 'desecrating' a headstone in the historic cemetery there, using the property as a toilet and leaving it strewn with garbage.

Main Street and Peconic Avenue will be closed to traffic today starting at 3 p.m. for the Alive on 25 street festival and Independence Day fireworks event, Riverhead Town Police announced.
