There's lots to do around Riverhead this holiday weekend, with the annual street-painting festival on Main Street, and beaches opening for the season.

The Riverhead Town Board will vote next week to prevent nonresidents from obtaining beach parking permits this year, continuing a suspension that started in 2020 in the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beach committee, to be chaired by Councilman Tim Hubbard, will advise officials on beach improvement and solving existing problems, such as parking.

After a holiday weekend washout, sunny skies and warm temperatures will beckon residents to local beaches this weekend. If that includes you, here's what you need to know.

Three private beaches in Riverhead Town have been closed to bathing by the county health department due to high bacteria levels.

Riverhead Town beaches, staffed with lifeguards and attendants, will be open daily beginning tomorrow. Bathrooms and playgrounds will be open, but concessions will not.

New York will open its beaches for Memorial Day Weekend, Cuomo said today, with new rules restricting the number of visitors and requiring social distancing.

The town would enter into a license agreements with vendors to provide food and beverages on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
