Three private beaches in Riverhead Town have been closed to bathing by the county health department due to high bacteria levels.
Riverhead Town beaches, staffed with lifeguards and attendants, will be open daily beginning tomorrow. Bathrooms and playgrounds will be open, but concessions will not.
Following complaints about nonresidents crowding town beaches, the Southold Police Department has created a beach patrol/task force for stepped up enforcement and the town recreation department has added staffing to check ID — which will be required for proof of residency of all people seeking to enter town beaches.
Southampton Town beach permits are available for sale by mail. Permits will be required as of May 23. Day
New York will open its beaches for Memorial Day Weekend, Cuomo said today, with new rules restricting the number of visitors and requiring social distancing.
The town would enter into a license agreements with vendors to provide food and beverages on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
