Calling all classic car enthusiasts: Cruise Night is returning to Downtown Riverhead during July 1’s Alive on 25 event. Classic cars will be parked on the north end of Peconic Avenue near Main Street from 4 to 8 p.m.

The frozen yogurt café was closed in 2019 due to flood damage to their building, then 2020 brought the coronavirus crisis, which shut Sweet Tart down for most of the year. Owners Miyoshi and James Foster are excited to be back.

As COVID restrictions are lifted, Riverhead is coming back to life this spring and summer with a full schedule of events that were canceled by the pandemic last year. Here's the roll-out, including fireworks.

On-street bike rentals are now available around downtown Riverhead and at the recreation trail at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton. With a smart phone app, bikes can be rented hourly, daily or through an annual membership.

The restaurant, which opened less than six months before the pandemic struck, is "a victim of this pandemic," the restaurant posted on its Facebook page. The site. where three restaurants have opened and closed in the past decade, is being sold, a source close to the property owner said.

With the governor's announcement this week that most businesses, including theaters, will be allowed to operate at 100% capacity as of May 19, the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead got busy trying to book acts in a hurry. "Coordinating the dates has been like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube," theater owner Bob Castaldi said.

The town board this week approved the necessary financing to complete more than $820,000 worth of improvements to six downtown Riverhead parking lots.
