Leanne and Linda Simonsen, widow and mother of fallen NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen, who was killed in the line of duty in February 2019, are the grand marshals of the Jamesport St. Patrick's Day Parade, the East End Emerald Society said. The parade will take place March 30.

The Jamesport St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been postponed to next Saturday, April 1, due to inclement weather forecast for this Saturday, the original date for this year’s celebration.

Their surname may be Polish but their Irish roots are deep. Patrick and Joann Waski, both descendants of Irish immigrants, will don the top hat and green jacket to lead this year's Jamesport St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Maybe it was the “luck of the Irish” or maybe it was the lucky number seven, but the East End Emerald Society’s 7th St. Patrick’s Day Parade today was no doubt blessed with good fortune. The parade had no sooner ended when the overcast skies darkened, then opened up, sending lingering spectators scrambling for cover from the downpour.

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jamesport's St. Patrick's parade will return on Saturday, March 26.

Dawn Thomas, the first woman to be named grand marshal of the parade since its inception in 2014, received her top hat and shillelagh at a dinner in her honor last night in Aquebogue.

The New York City Police Department Emerald Society Pipes and Drums marched in the Jamesport parade this year to honor two fallen brethren, Det. Brian Simonsen and retired Chief of Detectives Jack Cuddy. The pipe band stopped for a special tribute — "Amazing Grace" — at Jamesport Cemetery, where Simonsen, a Jamesport native, is buried. A ceremony honoring the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001, as well as Jamesport-area veterans, is being planned this year by the Greater Jamesport Civic Association and the East End Emerald Society.
