Asked if the removal of the wall means members of the public can attend town hall meetings in person, Riverhead Supervisor Yvette Aguiar said the public has not been prohibited from attending those meetings in person. The town's emergency orders and meeting notices say otherwise.

Riverhead Town officials are considering leasing the vacant 106,000-square-foot former Kmart building on Route 58 for use as a municipal complex. The town would consolidate most departments in one location.

The town board will appoint someone to serve out the balance of Councilwoman Jodi Giglio's term. Giglio was elected to the State Assembly and takes office Jan. 1.

While Riverhead Town Hall remains closed to the public, there are several ways to make payments,Riverhead Receiver of Taxes Laurie Zaneski said.
