Plans for a Hobby Lobby store on Route 58 in Riverhead got a green light from the Riverhead Planning Board on Thursday, which agreed to amend the Garsten Retail site plan to shrink the building size by about 3,000 square feet, making way for occupancy by a single tenant.

The Garsten Retail Center gained final approval from the Riverhead Planning Board on Aug. 17, 2017. The town board approved an excavation permit last month, providing for the removal of 8,156 cubic yards of soil

Payless ShoeSource is the latest Route 58 retailer liquidating its inventory in advance of closing down. The international chain is closing all of its 2,300 North America stores.
