A Riverhead auto dealership owned by the same family for 45 years has changed hands. The Strollo family has sold Riverhead Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram to the owner of Stevens 112 Ford.

A five-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 58 and Mill Road early this morning shut down eastbound traffic on the four-lane highway.

Riverhead Town officials are considering leasing the vacant 106,000-square-foot former Kmart building on Route 58 for use as a municipal complex. The town would consolidate most departments in one location.

Tanger Factory Outlets, a mainstay of Riverhead’s Route 58 commercial corridor since the mid-1990s, was hurt by pandemic shutdowns and tenant bankruptcies last year, but business is stabilizing and improving, company executives said this week.

Aguiar will ask the town board to consider allowing vacant retail spaces to be redeveloped with “micro” apartments, which she says would fill a need for a variety of household types without impacting the school district.

Plans for an automated car wash on the corner of Route 58 and Pulaski Street Extension were debated for nearly an 90 minutes during a town board public hearing Wednesday afternoon.

A car ran a red light on Route 58 Saturday morning and struck a vehicle exiting a shopping center with a green light. Three people were injured.

The planning board approved a 31,146-square-foot, two-story building for auto sales and service at 1716 Old Country Road.

Town officials are considering a zoning code change to allow outside automobile storage as a special permit use in industrial zones, to help auto dealers with inventories too large to store at their dealerships. But they disagree over which of the town’s industrial zones should allow outdoor auto storage.
