Police have released a surveillance camera image of the man they say robbed a gas station convenience store in Calverton at gunpoint on Jan. 25.

The image shows a masked man dressed in a dark-colored hooded jacket pointing a handgun at the store clerk.

Police say the man entered the Bolla Market convenience store at the Mobil gas station, located at 3705 Middle Country Road, just east of Edwards Avenue, at about 10 p.m. He displayed a handgun and demanded cash from an employee, police said. The employee complied and the man fled on foot.

A Riverhead Police K-9 unit along with N.Y. State Police searched the area, but the suspect remained at large, Riverhead police said in a press release Jan. 26.

It was the second armed robbery of a convenience store in two days reported by Riverhead Police. On Saturday night Jan. 23 — during a blizzard — a man with a handgun held up the Valero gas station on Route 25A in Wading River, about five miles from the Mobil station. On Feb. 4, police charged a 20-year-old Wading River man in that crime.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
