Riverhead defeated McGann-Mercy 61-47 at Riverhead High School Thursday.
Riverhead came out flying against a tired-looking Mercy squad. The Monarchs played a late game Wednesday night and it showed. Riverhead was scoring at will, causing turnovers at mid-court and in the Mercy end. By halftime the Blue Waves had a 29-14 lead. The second half was no better for Mercy as Riverhead kicked it into high gear and put the game away.
Kate McCarney lead Riverhead with 32 points, Faith Johnson Desilva had 14 points, and Angie Graziano had 9 points. Melina Santacroce led McGann-Mercy with 21 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
