Downtown revitalization

The Town Board will vote Tuesday to designate Riverhead town square master developer J. Petrocelli “qualified and eligible,” allowing the company to move forward with the construction of a hotel, public plaza and playground in the center of downtown.

The Riverhead town square master developer presented its vision and qualifications for developing the town square at a Town Board hearing July 22.

A July 22 public hearing is the first and probably the only chance for the public to be heard on whether they like the idea of a five-story hotel on the town square.

The Town Board will determine whether builder Joe Petrocelli is "qualified and eligible" to buy and develop property for a hotel/condo project in the town square, under the terms of a proposed agreement. (Read it here.)

A "qualified and eligible sponsor" hearing on the town square master developer will take place July 22 at 6 p.m. at Riverhead Town Hall. The hearing is an essential step for the sale of land for development of a hotel that’s the centerpiece of the town square project.

Apartment developer Heatherwood and Riverhead Town officials today celebrated the groundbreaking of a new downtown apartment building on East Main Street, nine years in the making.

The Town Board on Tuesday approved an agreement with the developer of Heatherwood's five-story, mixed-use building on East Main Street allowing it to use certain town land near the construction site for storage and parking.

Riverhead Town is moving ahead with eminent domain proceedings to buy out the lease of the downtown bar Craft’d and acquire the East Main Street building owned by the Long Island Science Center, according to resolutions on the Town Board’s agenda today.

The multi-phased proposed actions included in the determination of non-significance range from the riverfront playground and amphitheater to the Railroad Avenue redevelopment. The town's analysis said a second review of the later phase projects is allowed.
