Riverhead defeated Brentwood 18-7 at the Pulaski Street sports complex.
It was a total team effort yesterday afternoon for Riverhead, as all players — starters and bench players — got in the mix and contributed to a big win over Brentwood.
The starting players took Riverhead to a 5-0 lead in the first five minutes, who after just fives minutes, had the team up 5-0. Then the bench players came in, with he coach making substitutions on the fly. They continued to score goals but some defensive lapses allowed a less skilled Brentwood team to tally five goals by halftime. The half ended with Riverhead ahead 11-5.
The second half brought a mix of players, and a stronger defense, allowing the Blue Waves to extend their lead for the 18-7 win.
Riverhead (4-3-0 in Division I, 5-4-0 overall) has a two-game road trip coming up, traveling to Bay Shore (3-3,4-4) next Wednesday, then Smithtown West (5-1-0, 6-2-0) next Friday.
The Waves’ return home on Tuesday, May 2 when they take on Copiague. Game time: 4 p.m.
