McGann-Mercy swept Southold to win the Suffolk Class C Championship yesterday in Southold.

The Monarchs defeated Southold 18-1 to take two of three in the final series and clinch the title — its first in school history, according to athletic director Melissa Edwards.

Sarah Penney was back in the circle and was dominant early, not letting Southold get a hit until the fourth inning. It was a tough outing for Liz Jernick, but she held her own.

Mercy was on a mission from the get go, as they pounded out hits in just about every inning besting the reigning champion Southold in a blowout win.
