Mazi, a popular Mediterranean restaurant on Main Street in downtown Riverhead, has closed its doors.
The restaurant has been shuttered for the past few weeks. Proprietor John Mantzopoulos acknowledged it was closed, but said he is not ready to talk about it and declined further comment.
Mantzopoulos opened Mazi after his prior restaurant, the Athens Grill, was destroyed by fire on June 28, 2013.
The restaurant is one of three storefronts in the building owned by the chef’s wife, Hristina. A mobile communications business occupies one of the other shops and Sweet Tart Frozen Yogurt occupies the other.
Future plans for the Mazi space have not yet been publicly aired.
