Mazi, a popular Mediterranean restaurant on Main Street in downtown Riverhead, has closed its doors.

Mazi has risen from the ashes of the Athens Grill. John and Christine Mantzopoulous hosted a pre-opening celebration party last night at their new Riverhead eatery.

After a kitchen fire destroyed the Athens Grill two years ago, John Mantzopoulos will finally reopen his restaurant next week under a new name.

Three new Main Street eateries have entered the home stretch of the renovation process and look to be open by summertime.
