The flag of the Republic of Ireland flies again on the village green in Jamesport.

Town officials on Saturday morning joined the East End Emerald Society for the annual flag-raising tradition, begun in 2024.

The East End Emerald Society sponsors the Jamesport St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which took place for the first time in 2014. It is the first and only St. Patrick’s Day parade held in the Town of Riverhead.

The society was organized with the goal of hosting a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Jamesport. Featuring marching bands, pipes and drums corps, police organizations, fire departments and a variety of community groups from across the region, the parade enjoyed immediate success.

This year’s parade is slated to take place on Saturday, March 28 stepping off off at 1 p.m. from Washington Avenue. Riverhead businessman Brian Stark has been named grand marshal of the 2026 parade, with aides Earl Truland and Steven Wirth.

Following yesterday’s flag-raising, the East End Emerald Society and supporters gathered in South Jamesport for the Leprechaun Leap, a dip into the chilly waters of the Peconic Bay to raise funds to support the parade. See photos here.
