High wind warning

Riverhead Police are advising downtown residents to move their vehicles out of the Peconic River parking lot due to expected moderate to major flooding to flood-prone coastal areas during Monday morning's high-tide cycle.

The National Weather Service has issued high wind and coastal flood warnings for Riverhead and the North Fork for overnight tonight and tomorrow morning, for tropical storm force winds gusting to 55-60 mph and potential coastal flooding of 3 feet above ground.

Sustained winds from the south will reach 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected, the weather service said.

PSEG-LI is already reporting power outages affecting more than 13,000 customers across the island overnight, including more than 100 in Riverhead, most along Sound Shore Road in Northville.

The National Weather Service in Upton has posted a wind advisory through 9 o'clock Monday night. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected.
