Coastal flood advisory

A mix of rain and sleet is falling across Riverhead and the North Fork this morning. The wet precipitation, on top of three to five inches of snow accumulations, is creating a slushy, icy mess on local roads.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect midday today and a freeze warning has been issued from 10 p.m. tonight to 10 a.m. tomorrow.

There will be an enhanced risk of fire spread today with gusty winds and low humidity. A coastal flood advisory is in effect tomorrow.

Northeast winds may gust to 50 mph today and coastal flooding is expected at times of high tide this morning and evening, as a storm system passes southeast of Long Island.

Expect around one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying, vulnerable areas at times of high tide this morning, the National Weather Service said.

The National Weather Service has issued wind and coastal flood advisories for northeast Suffolk Friday. A flood watch is also in effect.
