A woman is facing a felony robbery charge and other charges after she slapped and kicked a clerk at a Peconic Avenue gas station in Riverside Friday morning, Southampton Town Police said in a press release Saturday.

Police said a homeowner awoke to find an unknown man in the home and called 911.  The intruder was rifling through a pocketbook. Another occupant of the home chased the intruder out of the house and detained him for police

The Southampton Police Department has a new chief. Former Captain James Kiernan was appointed and sworn in as the town’s top law enforcement officer during a special Town Board meeting Thursday.

An elderly Southold man was killed in an accident on County Road 94 in Riverside this morning. The driver of the vehicle, which overturned and crashed into the median, was injured.

A Brooklyn man stopped for speeding on County Road 51 yesterday had crack cocaine, Clonazepam pills and fentanyl in his car, as well as scales and clear plastic baggies, Southampton police said.

The occupant of a house on Riverleigh Avenue in Riverside and the driver of a 2022 BMW traveling north on Riverleigh Avenue were both injured when a 10-wheel tractor-trailer, also northbound on Riverleigh, crashed into the BMW and the house this morning, according to Southampton Town Police.

A reportedly suicidal man, who was “throwing oil filled bottles, holding a gasoline can with a rag inserted in the spout and brandishing a large knife,” was taken into police custody and brought to the hospital for evaluation after a three-hour standoff outside his home in the Riverwoods mobile home park in Riverside yesterday.

A stranded Harbor Seal pup that made its way out of the Peconic River using the fishway in Grangebel Park was rescued by the N.Y. Marine Rescue Center with the help of Southampton Town Police early Sunday morning.
